Disaster in a can

I picked up a can of that spray on tan stuff last night, thinking it might be fun to try out. I'm pale (like glow in the dark) pretty much all year round--minus the occassional burn, so I thought I'd give the can a try.

Do. Not. Try.

That stuff is not only a waste of money, but a waste of time.

Okay, so I bought the cheaper kind (Banana Boat)so I don't know if the more expensive stuff really works any better, but the airbrush tan is supposed to be completely sprayed on without having to rub it in.

Yeah, this works if you want to come out of it looking like a cheetah.

I followed the directions and sprayed evenly, starting with my legs. Big circles of brown appeared in areas where the spray landed more heavily (not user error). so I rub it in a little, and end up with these "shavings" that are dark, all over. Stupid me, after wiping it off, I continue to use this because I don't want just part of my body one color.

It worked okay on my shoulders, then the can quit. I don't know if it was clogged or what, but I could not get the stupid thing to work anymore. at all.

*sigh*

So now today I look like an Oompa Loompa.

Well, not exactly, but that's how I feel.

Knock knock.
Who's there?
Orange.
Orange who?
Orange you glad it isn't permanent? =:)

LOL You bet!!
ooh no!! lol
i'll trade you my sunburn?!?

actually what worked really well for me was the jergens glow lotion. i think dove makes one. i have the CVS brand. it gives an all-around glow with no lines. you have to do it a few days in a row but no lines and v. natural.
That's funny you should mention that--I have some of that lotion (not sure which brand, I think it is Jergens though) and I keep forgetting to use it every night. So, being my impatient self I resorted to "immediate results from a can." See, lesson to be learned--Patience does pay off in the end :)
rose, i am laughing my ass off here. i was using the jergens stuff and loved it. but i went to the beach for the first time sunday and am like, 'i need to amp up my tan. i'll get a base burn.'
oh...i freaking got one alright.
Yeah. Done that. Banana Boat REEKS too. That's the only bummer about it.I just tried Jergens in the wee hope maybe THAT wouldn't offend like BB but...alas, it stinketh as well.
LOL! I am so sorry--I am--but you really brought a smile to my day!
Ok girl, do not fret. It goes away in a few days. Using rubbing alcohol helps speed it up. I am the queen of sunless tanner because I look like the dead, and several times I have had the oompa loompa complexion to contend with. But here's what you do: buy Neutrogena-- the sunless tanner/bronzer in one, that shows you where it's going on. Buy LIGHT (they come in 3 shades). Make sure you take a shower and exfoliate with a loofah or washcloth before application. Then apply very diligently, being careful not to over-apply on ankles, knees, elbows, anywhere there's wrinkles (and the stuff tends to collect and be darker). Despite whatever it says, RUB IT IN to make sure you have applied evenly. Then don't forget to wash your palms (I always do...yick)! After it dries, follow up with a lotion that has sparklies (like Jergen's soft shimmer lotion), and you will be a bathing beauty!!
Aw Rose, I'm so sorry!

Hopefully you'll be able to put your experience to good use in a book - maybe your YA?
That totally sucks! I fear that self-tanning stuff...
OH NO! Another sunless tanning nightmare! Break out the alcohol...the rubbing kind, too.

I agree with Cyn2. I've had great results with the light or medium Neutrogena sunless tanning stuff. Just be sure to have a damp (not drippy) washcloth or sponge to rub between your palms. I usually like the cloth because I can run it in between my fingers and take an extra swipe or two at the elbows and ankles.

I've only tried the spray once. That was a horrible experience. Not quite Oompa Loompaish, but close.
What? No picture? We want a picture of your Wonka inspired skin color!
I'm with you,almarrone. LOL Let's see photos.

Rose,
It might be small comfort, but at least the orange coloring isn't painful, well not in a physical way. Right now I look like a freshly cooked crab, with the personality to match.
Jergens lotion is pretty cool!
I've never tried it. But one time I tried to change my hair to blonde and it turned purple. If I could stand to wear contacts I would have a different eye color every day. Always want what I'm not.
